Paris is one of those cities that lives up to every expectation — and then surprises you anyway. I spent a week here filming for the channel, and this guide covers everything I actually used: the tours worth booking, the hotels I'd stay in again, and the shortcuts that save you hours.
Getting There
The easiest way is to fly into CDG (Charles de Gaulle). From the airport, take the RER B train directly to the city centre — it takes about 35 minutes and costs around €11. Skip the taxis unless you have heavy luggage.
The Eiffel Tower — Book in Advance
This one surprised me. The Eiffel Tower sells out weeks ahead in summer. Don't assume you can just show up. Book the summit ticket online at least 2 weeks before your trip. The view from the top at sunset is genuinely one of the best in Europe.
Seine Cruise — Worth Every Cent
I almost skipped the cruise thinking it would be too touristy. I was wrong. The Vedettes de Paris boats are smaller and more personal than the big Bateaux Mouches. Combined with the Tootbus hop-on hop-off, it's the fastest way to see the whole city on day one.
Where to Stay
The 7th arrondissement (near the Eiffel Tower) is perfect if it's your first time. You can walk to most major sights. The 15th is slightly cheaper and still very convenient. I've listed my top 5 picks in the sidebar — all verified on Booking.com with real guest scores.
